Bonsai Jin Pliers

Bonsai Jin Pliers Buyers Guide

What Are Bonsai Jin Pliers?

Jin Pliers are often a very over looked tool in the bonsai tool kit, But in fact I find myself using my Jin Pliers all the time. Lets take a look at some of the things to look out for when buying bonsai jin pliers.

Different Size Jin Pliers

Like most other bonsai tools jin pliers come in different sizes, your smaller jin pliers are great for small detail work like stripping bark from smaller branches or for removing bark from branches in tight locations. They are also great to tie down your tree anchor wires as they aren’t big and bulky and don’t get in the way of what you are doing. Larger jin pliers can be used for removing bark from larger branches but are also used for guy wiring, When we are bending with guy wires we are generally putting a lot of force on the wire and you will want a good set of pliers that will not only stand up too this tension but also be able to keep a nice firm grip on the wire as you are pulling on it. I’ve seen the heads snap clean off the cheaper brands during this process which is not only a shame in terms of a waste of money but it can also be dangerous to both the tree and the person using them at the time. As the tool breaks your arm can fly backwards and possibly collide with something and cause an injury.

Material And Durability

With any bonsai tools I recommend Carbon Steel as this steel is far stronger then stainless steel. But I really highly recommend carbon steel when we talk about our tools that are under high tension. Please do make sure that you research the tool you are buying to make sure you can be sure that it is actual carbon steel as there is a lot of Alloy Tools out there on the market that are branded as Japanese Carbon Steel. Not only is buying a higher quality tool safer and easier to use but it will also last you a very long time and you wont need to keep purchasing the same tools over and over again.
